Pro Tip: Save your original IP address before configuring the proxy so you can compare and confirm the proxy is working.
Important Limitations to Know
WiFi Only (No Cellular Data Support)
iOS does not support proxy configuration for cellular data through built-in settings. Proxies only work when you're connected to WiFi. If you need proxy on cellular, you'll need enterprise configuration profiles or VPN solutions.
Per-Network Configuration
Proxy settings are saved per WiFi network. You'll need to configure the proxy separately for each WiFi network you connect to (home, office, coffee shop, etc.).
HTTP/HTTPS Only (No SOCKS5)
iPhone's built-in proxy settings only support HTTP and HTTPS proxies. SOCKS5 proxies are not natively supported through WiFi settings.
SOCKS5 Workaround: You can use third-party apps like Shadowrocket or configure a VPN that supports SOCKS5 proxying, but these require additional setup beyond native iOS settings.
App-Specific Behavior
Some apps may bypass proxy settings or have their own network configurations. The proxy will work for Safari and most apps, but certain apps (especially banking or security-focused apps) may ignore proxy settings.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Issue: "Cannot Connect to Server" or Pages Won't Load
Possible causes and solutions:
Issue: Slow Connection Speed
Solutions:
Issue: Proxy Settings Keep Resetting
Solutions:
Issue: Certain Apps Don't Work Through Proxy
Explanation and workarounds:
Still having issues? Try disabling the proxy (set to "Off"), restart your iPhone, then reconfigure from scratch. This often resolves configuration corruption issues.
How to Disable or Remove Proxy Settings
When you no longer need the proxy or want to troubleshoot connection issues, you can easily disable it:
Quick Disable (Temporary)
This disables the proxy but keeps your settings saved. You can re-enable by selecting "Manual" again.
Permanent Removal
Warning: "Forget Network" removes all settings for that WiFi including the password. You'll need to re-enter the WiFi password.

Best Practices & Pro Tips
Use Premium Mobile Proxy Providers
Not all mobile proxies are created equal. Premium providers offer better speed, reliability, and authentic mobile carrier IPs. Free or cheap proxies often have poor performance and can be security risks.
Save Credentials Securely
iOS saves your proxy username and password in the Keychain. However, it's good practice to:
Monitor Connection Quality
Periodically verify your proxy is working correctly by checking your IP address. If you notice degraded performance or connection issues, contact your proxy provider—they may need to rotate or refresh your proxy.
Understand Privacy Limitations
While proxies hide your IP, they don't provide full privacy. Your proxy provider can see your traffic. For maximum privacy, consider using a VPN in addition to or instead of a proxy, or use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all browsing.
Configure Multiple Networks
If you frequently use multiple WiFi networks (home, office, coffee shops), configure proxy settings on each one you use regularly. This ensures consistent proxy protection wherever you connect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use mobile proxies on cellular data instead of WiFi?
No, iPhone's built-in settings only support proxy configuration for WiFi networks. iOS does not allow proxy configuration for cellular data through native settings. For cellular proxy usage, you would need enterprise configuration profiles (typically managed by IT departments) or use VPN-based solutions.
Do I need to configure proxy separately on each app?
No. When you configure a proxy at the WiFi level in iOS Settings, it applies system-wide to all apps that respect system proxy settings. Most apps including Safari, Chrome, and social media apps will automatically use the proxy. However, some apps (especially VPNs, banking apps, and certain secure apps) may bypass proxy settings.
Will proxy slow down my iPhone?
Proxies introduce some additional latency since your traffic routes through an intermediary server. The speed impact depends on the proxy quality, distance to the proxy server, and current proxy load. Premium mobile proxy providers typically offer minimal slowdown, while free or overloaded proxies can significantly impact speed.
Can I use SOCKS5 proxies on iPhone?
iPhone's native WiFi settings only support HTTP/HTTPS proxies. SOCKS5 proxies are not natively supported. To use SOCKS5 on iPhone, you'll need to use third-party apps like Shadowrocket, Surge, or Quantumult, or configure a VPN that supports SOCKS5 proxying.
Is it safe to use mobile proxies on public WiFi?
Using a mobile proxy on public WiFi adds a layer of privacy by hiding your IP address, but it's not a complete security solution. Your proxy provider can still see your traffic. For maximum security on public WiFi, combine proxy usage with HTTPS connections and consider using a VPN for encrypted traffic.
Why isn't my proxy working after iOS update?
Major iOS updates can sometimes reset network configurations or cause proxy settings to malfunction. Try disabling and re-enabling the proxy, or "Forget Network" and reconfigure from scratch. Also verify that your proxy provider's servers are still operational and accessible.
